Letter to Governer from CITES past Secreatary General (Jaques Berney et al.) We would like to point out that if Japan closes its domestic ivory market, as suggested by Mayor de Blasio, this will do more harm than good to the cause of elephant conservation. To the contrary, we urge Japan to support moves to restart a carefully controlled global trade in registered ivory because this will truly aid elephant conservation.
